I recently had the pleasure of speaking to author Carly Mountain on an online retreat for the launch of her book ‘Descent and Rising’. The book looks at the Heroine's journey from the view of the Inanna myth and charts the need for descending into the underworld in order to rise anew.

In the conversation, we explored:

  • The embodied nature of grief

  • What tensions and defences we may develop in relationship to unprocessed grief and how this relates to Gate Four and the removal of Inanna's breastplate.

  • Grief as a portal to divinity and the preciousness of life

  • How boundaries can be an important part of the grieveing process

  • Poetry and story as languages that can touch our grief in ways that other language cannot.
